Last updated May 30, 2006

Ex Machina Press knows that you care how information about you is used and shared and we appreciate your trust in us to do that carefully and sensibly. This notice describes our privacy policy.

The following details apply to any personal information provided or gathered by Ex Machina Press. Your use of our web site indicates to us that you have read and accept our privacy practices, as outlined in this Privacy Policy. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy, please contact Peter@ExMachinaPress.com.

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
When you visit our web site, you may provide us with two types of information: 1) personally identifiable information that you knowingly choose to disclose, which is collected on an individual basis; and 2) general user information that does not contain personally identifiable information, which is collected by our hosting service as you browse our web site.

Information may be shared for administrative purposes and for purposes to detect and prevent fraud. Ex Machina Press restricts access to nonpublic personal information to those individuals who provide services to you and who have been trained to handle nonpublic personal information. We do not sell your information to others so that they may solicit you. Other than as discussed in this Privacy Policy, unless sharing is authorized by you or by applicable law, we will not share your personally identifiable information.

PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION YOU CHOOSE TO PROVIDE
We may ask for certain personal information from you for the purpose of providing to you the content and/or services that you request. For example, if you indicate an interest in one of our Ex Machina Press newsletters, you are asked to submit your name and e-mail address, which we retain on file, so that we may send you the information that you requested. We may retain a record of users who have contacted us in order to respond properly to questions or concerns and for purposes of future communications and marketing programs.

Ex Machina Press will not use any information submitted to us for external marketing purposes, nor share it with any third party for marketing purposes.

WHAT IS OUR INFORMATION SECURITY POLICY?
Ex Machina Press considers your information to be confidential. Only individuals who need your information to perform their jobs are authorized to have access to that information. We also maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards with respect to your information, which comply with federal and state standards. We expect our business associates and any third party that serves you on our behalf to adhere to our Privacy Policy. These business associates and third parties are legally bound to use your information only for the purposes for which it was provided, and to not disclose it or use it in any way. These business associates and third parties are also subject to and governed by federal and state privacy laws and regulations.

NON-PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION WE COLLECT
As with other commercial web sites, our site utilizes standard technology called "cookies" and web server logs to collect information about how our web site is used. Cookies are a feature of web browser software that allows web servers to recognize the computer used to access a web site. Cookies are small pieces of data that are stored by a user's web browser on the user's hard drive. Information gathered through cookies and web server logs may include the date and time of visits, the pages viewed, time spent at our web site, and the web sites visited just before and just after our web site.

You can, of course, disable cookies on your computer by indicating this in the preferences or options menus in your browser. However, it is possible that some parts of our web site will not operate correctly if you disable cookies. You should consult with your browser's provider/manufacturer if you have any questions regarding disabling cookies.

WHAT ARE OUR SECURITY MEASURES?
Ex Machina Press takes every precaution to protect visitor information both online and off-line. Your information is stored on servers in a locked, secure environment. These servers are protected from hackers with firewalls and a variety of other security mechanisms and procedures. Only designated Ex Machina Press administrators have access to this information. One of these precautions is the use of encryption software for electronic messages that are transmitted to us. Encryption is designed to make the information unreadable by anyone but us. Data and information is transferred over a secure channel, then “unencrypted” in a secure database.

This security measure greatly minimizes the chance that messages will be intercepted by third parties not affiliated with us.

This Privacy Policy applies solely to online information collection and use practices in connection with this website; it does not apply to any practices conducted offline or in connection with other websites owned or operated by Ex Machina Press.
